Bozoma Case Study

The importance of gender diversity in modern organizational cultures

The issue of gender and race diversity in modern organizational culture have been a reoccurring issue due to the lack of diversity within the higher levels of management within corporations. I believe this is a issue which should be addressed urgently as me amongst many researches agree gender diversity leads to more creative thinking which would allow innovation in any fast-changing industry for example the tech industry. A case study for this is Bozoma Saint John, Uber`s chief brand officer who spoke publicly about the issue numerous times.

In a article released by CNBC, Saint John addresses the issue of diversity in the tech industry and provides a simple solution. In the article she says “simply hire more women” which seems to be a simplified solution to the problem however it is believed to be true as numbers matter in this particular case (https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/15/ubers-bozoma-saint-john-says-this-is-how-to-address-diversity-issues.html).

Hiring more women for more important roles would signify the benefits of more diverse thinking within a business which improves efficiency and production from the roots of the organisation. According to a article released by Harvard Business Review in a study of 1,069 leading firms across 35 countries and 24 industries “we found that gender diversity relates to more productive companies as measured by market value and revenue” (https://hbr.org/2019/02/research-when-gender-diversity-makes-firms-more-productive). This proves the significance of gender diversity and showcases the effects of the changes that have already been made within organisations.

There are a number of ways gender diversity improves efficiency including enhanced collaboration. This might be due to the fact that researches noticed that women have stronger skills reading non-verbal cue and women also tend to be better at taking turns in conversations. I believe this massively enhances communication between subordinates which leads to faster, more efficient and well-though out decision making.
